Another Good Day
Temperatures were great today. The low was 63 last night and the high was 77. Tonight the low is supposed to be 56. It rained last night. Not a lot but what we did get was a nice gentle rain. Just after lunch it rained quite hard for a short time. The rain was needed.
I GOT A HAIRCUT, finally. This morning I went to Nick's Barbershop in Evart, for a $10 haircut. I arrived at 8:10. Nick opened at 8:00. I was third in line.
My jobs today were:
Phil and I did maintenance checks on three generators around the campus. We started and ran them for 20 min each. Actually Phil had already completed the first one before I got back from my haircut. They were relatively small 4 KW units.
Next we were told about a leaking water pipe that was eroding the soil around one of the small buildings. Neither of us fully understood the directions and we went to the wrong place. No big deal, just an extra half mile of walking.
After lunch we went to the "game room" and removed over 100' of "twinkle lights" that were wrapped around some HVAC ductwork. The lights had been up for years and most of them no longer worked.
We then went to the right place and found the leaking pipe. It was and overflow pipe between two ponds. We walked back over to the Site office and scrounged around until we found a 20' section of pipe that we figured we could make work to replace the damaged section of pipe. We managed to get a golf cart to use as transport for the remainder of the day. Our "repair" leaked a little but we think it will be satisfactory.
We then replaced some damaged guardrail at the Copper Country skate park to finish out the day.
Kathy input camper/guest evaluations forms again today. She said that the computers were very slow again today. There have been some other volunteers helping input the forms this week. She ended up taking her laptop over to the office so that they there was another computer to use.
Spring Hill met their goal for the number of registered campers. About 15 of the people over at the Site office dyed their hair pink. Most did it with temporary dye but the guy who gives us most of our jobs did his with permanent dye. His hair is mostly gray and the color turned out to be as pink as cotton candy.
Every Tuesday evening is Volunteer Appreciation night. They typically have ice cream and cake. It is a nice time to visit with the staff and other volunteers.
Good night to all and may God bless you and yours.
