Turned on the AC
Today is the warmest and most humid day we have experienced since arriving. Tomorrow is supposed ot be more of the same and then it is supposed to cool off again. There is enough of a breeze so that it is not to uncomfortable when outside in the shade, but it is pretty dusty. ALL the roads at the camp are sand/gravel and there is a lot of loose, fine sand to blow around when the wind picks up a little. Not horrible, but dusty. We shut up the RV and turned on the AC around lunch time.
We attended the on site church service this morning. We didn't find out about it until late so we missed the music at the beginning, probably a good thing for me <grin>. There were a couple of songs at the end. The bass was loud enough that it vibrated my bones. The Christian rapp was so loud that it was more easily understandable after I plugged my good ear, trying to protect it <grin>. The young people enjoyed it and that is what it is all about. There was standing room only in the auditorium. It was great.
The number of staff is just mind boggling. There are hundreds of summer staff as well as many volunteers. The kids from Goshen are still here and they were in the dining room for lunch but the rest of the place was full of summer staff, getting ready for all the new kids who are now arriving.
Todays message was related to the number of kids who will be here the next week. The guy talked about God commanding us to rest and mentioned that because the Israelites refused to let the land rest, as He had prescribed, He had them taken in Babylonian capitivy. Basically the speaker told everyone that they needed to rest when they had the chance, especially during the upcoming week.
I took his message to heart. I just go up from a nap. I thought I was going to fill in for someone and drive a golf cart around today, kind of a taxi serivce. The regular guy showed up and I wasn't needed.
Kathy went over around 2:30 and is helping register kids.
We did go to Administration and got our "official" photo ID badges after lunch. Everyone wears their badge on a lanyard around their neck. They actually close all the gates and night and have people who patrol the area to minimize the possibility of strangers being on campus. Of couse anyone could walk in, they just can't drive in. I think it also minimizes the possibility that the counselors (teens) will be out late partying.
Kathy just got home, off to free supper.
