Our Day in Munising

We got up this morning, I had breakfast, and we headed for Munising. 65 miles of pine trees both sides of the road, with the exception of two SMALL towns. (On the way back I watched for side roads. The place I checked, chosen at random, was 17 miles between side roads.)

We arrived just after 10 AM. We bought tickets for the noon Pictured Rocks 2 hour and 40 minute boat cruise then walked around Munising for a while and finally had an early lunch before heading back down to the pier. I can’t say enough positive things about the Pictured Rocks cruise. IT WAS AWESOME! Experiencing the beautiful weather and seeing the sandstone formations made me thank God for the beautiful creation he provided for us. I didn’t take many photos because photographers much better than I have photographed the entire area. You can get an idea at http://www.picturedrocks.com/TourtheRocks.php

I did take a couple of photographs. Below is Kathy enjoying the breeze.
The water was amazingly calm. On a weekend Hamilton Lake is much more choppy than anything we experienced on Lake Superior. Because of that we were able to experience some additional “treats.”  One was getting so close to the cliffs that you could almost reach out and touch them. On the return trip I’m certain we were within 15’, and more likely within 10’, of the cliff faces several times. The other treat was going into Grand Cavern. We were so far in that the face overhung the front of the boat. The last photo shows one of the other boats in the cavern. I don’t remember the specs but I am sure these boats were at least 80’ long.

On our return we found an ice cream place and treated ourselves to ice cream cones. Then we headed to another place, down the road about 3 miles and took a 2 hour tour on a boat that had glass panels in the bottom. They took us to shipwrecks along the coast. You could see things down 40’ quite clearly, although some of the wreckage was only 8-10’ below the surface. It wasn’t quite as good as the other tour, but it was still good.

We then returned home, had some tacos and are settled in for the night.

Rv'ing does seem to be a little behind the times in Michigan's upper peninsula.

I am open to suggestions if you think of things that might make my blog more interesting for you.
